Palma Black CEO of Soul Purpose 360 CIC has been announced as a nominee for the 2024 Women Changing the World Awards.
The Women Changing the World Awards presented by Sarah, Duchess of York and Oprah Winfrey’s all-time favourite guest, Dr. Tererai Trent, celebrate and recognize women achieving outstanding success in areas such as sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership, advocacy, tech, product development, education, health, and innovation.
Sarah, Duchess of York, and Dr Tererai Trent’s powerful call to action aims to awaken hearts and inspire the people of the world to come together to forge a brighter path for all. Their collective vision extends beyond conventional recognition, aiming to amplify the voices of those often overlooked, yet whose contributions are invaluable. The awards not only celebrate individual accomplishments but also seek to inspire others to create change in ways both big and small.
Sarah, Duchess of York says: "Our aim is to give voice to silent whispers. We want to lift women up all over the world and tell their stories."
Dr. Tererai Trent adds: "Women hold the ideas and leadership to heal the world. We are strong already, but together we are stronger. These exceptional women are here to awaken hearts, give permission to recapture dreams and inspire the women of the world to come together to forge a brighter path for all. The rising of women is the awakening of everybody.”
Palma said: “I was blown away to learn that I had been nominated for such a prestigious award. I am a community development professional and personal performance coach and founder & CEO of Soul Purpose 360, a social enterprise helping Black and minoritised women overcome personal obstacles and challenges and supporting them to contribute to their communities through their own personal growth.”
Soul Purpose 360 is a member-led coaching and mentoring social enterprise, committed to cultivating the personal and community leadership qualities in Black and minoritised women. Our mission is to motivate, inspire and imbue confidence in women to enable them to contribute positively to their communities through their own personal growth. We blend personal development with community development.
This work is so important because as we have learned these past few days, Black women face particular challenges, whether this be in national politics, in their workplaces or even in their homes. With a background in community development and through her training as a life coach, Palma turned her struggles with her own personal tragedy into a movement, that has attracted thousands of Black and minoritised women from a range of disciplines, lived experiences and geographical locations. Soul Purpose 360 blends community development with personal development, to reach and engage women and support them to turn their pain and shame into their superpower and give back to society. Through encouraging members to look at their life experiences through a different lens and by emboldening them by sharing my personal experiences and having the confidence to show my vulnerability.
Palma added: “For a long time, I did this in my spare time, self-funding the enterprise to help as many women as I could. I am accessible and available to Black women and members who call me and share their life experiences – a stranger recommended by word-of-mouth. I am here to hold a space for them, to listen and offer them a supportive network where they can connect with others – whatever their need.”
The vision for these awards is to empower women everywhere and call-in women across the globe to unite and pave the way towards a better future for all.
It can be challenging to create change in the world and Palma gives this advice for others thinking about following their calling to make a difference:
Palma is proud of her achievements, in the last 12 months she has supported over 50 individuals to overcome personal obstacles and challenges to set them on a path to achieve their dreams and aspirations, secured over £200k in grant funding and supported the establishment of local groups across the UK and launched a national campaign to challenge and change the negative narratives about Black women called Definition Redefined. She attributes this success to a supportive network of members of Soul Purpose 360 and a passionate desire to help Black women to live fulfilled lives, whatever that may mean for them.
The winners of the 2024 Women Changing the World Awards will be announced at a glamourous event in London, United Kingdom this May.
